What are Sender IDs, and when will ZA Bank implement them?

According to the Hong Kong Association of Banks, starting from 28 January 2024, retail and virtual banks who have joined the SMS Sender Registration Scheme, which the Office of the Communications Authority operates, will use Sender IDs with the prefix "#" to send one-way SMS messages to their users.

As ZA Bank is a registrant of this Scheme, starting on 28 January 2024, ZA Bank will send you SMS messages with Sender IDs including #ZABank, #ZA Bank or #ZA_Bank. As a warm reminder, the 'SMS Sender ID Registration Scheme' applies to local mobile service users, who use services by Hong Kong telecommunications service providers. The scheme does not apply to SMS messages where customers are expected to give a reply or local subscribers of Single-Card-Multiple-Numbers/One-Card-Two-Numbers mobile services provided by non-Hong Kong operators. If it is not the above situation, and that you receive an SMS message without the prefix “#” indicating that it was sent from an unregistered or unknown sender. Please always stay vigilant and be cautious of SMS messages from unknown origin.

Please do not disclose any information, including personal information and bank account numbers, to unidentified senders, access any hyperlinks in the SMS, or transfer money as requested to avoid suffering any loss.
